Isolation Day 4: ⁣

There are things that I know I’ll want to take with us into our post-Covid19 lives, like under-scheduling and knowing our neighbors. ⁣

Another thing I want to take with me? These leopard print leggings I bought for my 2019 Mel B Spice Girls Halloween costume! Why have I been ashamed of them? Why wouldn’t I let the world see how much we are in love? Anyway, here’s me and my leggings trying to take a selfie. We’re so crazy. ⁣

So yeah, isolation is going remarkably well. I learned that if I want Thora to get up and not sleep the day away, all I have to do is go lay down with her. Like on top of her. She gets a case of the giggles and then gets up. ⁣

I also learned that if I want her to run, all I have to do is chase her down the road. We ran a half a km just literally me chasing her. ⁣

We did some yoga (for risk takers!), went for a walk/bike ride/bike jump/chase.

We also marked the hours admiring Lucy’s many squishy face expressions (and there are a lot). ⁣

But in addition to the mundane and absurd things that we do to pass the time, like you know, becoming best friends with some leggings, a remarkable thing happened. It was mid-afternoon and I had just wrapped up a screen time session for Auric. This is always followed by 18 seconds of silence, and then unsurprisingly, followed by the “I’m bored,” whining session. ⁣

Today I said, “Why don’t you think of something to cook?” ⁣

Long story short, we made from scratch, ⁣ • Nadia Lim’s “Fennel and Lemon Zest Encrusted Burgers with Pickled Red Onions” with what we had on hand which meant we made breaded haloumi and eggplant burgers with jarred pickles⁣ • potato and kumara tater tots ⁣ • a chocolate cake⁣

I hope tomorrow is half as good as today!

Stay well everybody! #akidslife #yogawithadriene

Isolation Day 9:⁣ ⁣ Lots of family exercise in our house today. ⁣ ⁣ 🚢‍♂️A long walk for Sean (rehabbing a strained calf).⁣ ⁣ πŸƒ‍♀️A hill repeat session from a 4-week running program for me. ⁣ ⁣ πŸ’ͺThora busted out another session of her school’s distance learning PE homework. ⁣ ⁣ πŸƒ‍♂️🚴‍♂️🏊‍♂️ But Auric showed us all up by out of the blue, completing a solo DIY triathlon. He went for an out and back run down the road in one direction, collected his bike at our driveway for a ride up the road in the other direction, finishing up with several laps in the pool. ⁣ But that wasn’t it. I came back from my exercise just in time to see The Fightin’ Pococks’ Makeshift Gym. ⁣ Sean and Auric had played the time-honored game, “Fill These Bags with Stuff!” in order to improvise weights.⁣ ⁣ Thora joined in too for some duffel bag lifting, thera-band pulling, and toilet paper barbells. You know, your classic gym equipment.⁣ ⁣ And speaking of Thora, you may be wondering where she is in all these upd...

Isolation Day  8:  Boys be like: let me communicate with you through these tricks that I’ve been working on . ⁣ ⁣ So here are some back flips for his cousin in France. ⁣ ⁣ And before you say anything, yes we should power wash that tramp and perhaps tuck those poles into the net, but I mean who’s got time for that?  #akidslife

Isolation Day 11:⁣ ⁣⁣ Things (besides working from home) that happened today. ⁣ ⁣ • an early trip to the store ⁣ • a (relatively) clean body means a new tattoo canvas⁣ • sibling cuddles⁣ • half-assed yoga⁣ • 2 dog walks⁣ • dropping off groceries to an older neighbor and chatting with him for a bit⁣ • Meals are whatever, however⁣ • Reading! ⁣ • some good progress on the Isolation Pantry Cleanout⁣ • though there is still a disheartening amount of pantry detritus everywhere⁣ • Auric and Thora cooked dinner while I had a zoom happy hour with workmates.⁣ • Auric’s first attempt at homemade sushi wasn’t too shabby. Have a good day/night everyone!
